Our youth are our future and teachers are the backbone of our incredible schools. I’d like to play an active role in building trust between school leadership and our community through:
- judicious listening
- better communication with local families as well as community members who do not have kids in the AG school system
- transparent decision-making
- promoting a spirit of unity and collaboration among the Board, administration, staff and community
I will respect the diverse members of our AG community as people first. I’d like to see us focus less on politics and more on listening to each others’ needs like good neighbors do — leading by example for the next generation. I will promote unity by emphasizing and building consensus toward a goal that I think we should all rally behind: providing the best opportunities for students to grow in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math while supporting their creativity and confidence through vibrant extracurriculars.
As you choose school board directors, you’ll have to decide if you trust their decision-making processes. Respect and unity will always be part of mine. When navigating diverse perspectives, I will listen first and then collaborate to do what is best for our learners, because our schools and our community win when we prioritize education and investment in our youth.
I am a registered Republican, but I am running a self funded campaign as a passionate parent and community member. While many local Republicans have expressed their support, so have local Democrats who have worked alongside me in the community or taken the time to learn what I stand for. I am not reliant on a political organization or community group to represent what I stand for. I will make decisions for our schools based on the fact that I have actual skin in the game (my 3 children have a cumulative 30+ years of AG schooling to go) and I believe well-equipped youth are the bedrock of our future.
As far as I know, I am the only Region 1 candidate who is self-funded. I did this intentionally because I am neither reliant on nor influenced by any third party. To be direct: if you rely on Parents 4 PA Schools or Avon Grove Community for Strong Schools to form your opinion on school board candidates, I would instead encourage you to look at the communications I have shared to date, contact me with any questions and do the same for all candidates. Be sure to inquire not only what we candidates stand for, but also what guides our decision making. I make decisions based on careful listening, my own professional and volunteer experience, my personal integrity (as a father, neighbor and man of faith) and the fact that my three kids are impacted by the decisions at hand.
My name is on numerous barns and in various lawns across our community. I welcome anyone who wants to help spread the word that I’m in the race.
I wish I had voted more regularly in local elections. I want to encourage others that it’s not too late to get involved! It’s worth noting that while I am a new candidate for AG school board, I have been very involved in this and surrounding communities: as an elder and youth volunteer at the Christian Life Center and on the Board of the New London Counseling Center (both just minutes from the PLE/AGI campus) as well as an active volunteer with youth at UrbanPromise Wilmington. My wife has stayed very involved as a home room parent every year our daughter was in PLE and a PTA volunteer in PLE and now AGI. My family is all in for Avon Grove and I encourage everyone to be informed about this election.
I do not support the introduction of Critical Race Theory into our curriculum or our classrooms. My concern with this theory is that it will sow seeds of division, causing confusion amongst our youth rather than inviting all to work together and uniting around character to make our future better.
As School Board Director I’ll listen to the challenges and opportunities that our teachers and staff identify, and help ensure the Board/administration are united in addressing them. I will also listen to the perspectives of our parents/caregivers and community members, then work with the Board and administrators to ensure that our buildings, curricula, extra curricular programs, staff, technology and other resources all come together to prepare our students to apply their abilities in a positive way.
I do not believe parents should write the curriculum, however, I believe that parents should be offered a voice when developing the curriculum and should have transparency about what is in it. I also believe taxpayers’ voices should be considered by school board members and administrators. There’s an active role for diverse members of the community here: families of current and graduated students, teachers, administrators, taxpayers and your school board directors can unite to prepare our learners for the future.
I am excited about the opportunities our new high school will bring to students and I definitely support strategic investment in our facilities, with a focus on adhering to current construction life safety standards and security protocol. My professional expertise aligns well in this area, as I play an active role in Capital Planning for University of Delaware.
I believe spending should be transparent and in line with a strategic plan that has clear rationale on how each budget item delivers the best education for our kids, which in turn helps our community.
Buildings matter, but not as much as the people in them. I’m committed:
- to listening to what our teachers and support staff need to deliver the best education for our students
- to prioritizing investments in making our buildings safe, adhering to current construction life safety codes and security protocol. My loved ones — and yours — are in these buildings
- to rallying parents/caregivers and the broader community to support our schools
